JOURNALS WITHOUT DATES (XIV), 1986 Turgay GÖNENÇ

Ercüment Tarhan’s exhibition at Izmir Art and Sculpture Museum, whose works carry the influence of Picasso’s Pink and Blue stages, and the influence of Neşet Günal’s works in general, was worth attention. Although he is only at the last year of his education, Ercüment Tarhan’s works are quite productive in terms of quantity and quality. In all his works, whether there is figure or not, he is keen at both figure and composition and grasps the structure with full competence. In all his paintings, a unified expression is aimed and accomplished. In the series of paintings of Camel Bells, with three different measures, he seems to show how an object can be interpreted in a number of ways. His hardworking and meticulous character, with his humble personality, his development in a line that proceeds from power to personality, are a number of factors that will render him original and influential in the future. Especially, it is right to mark his competence in figurative painting.
